Most of the people coming to this site are looking for ways to create iPhone web sites or web applications. Without the need to find your way through the cumbersome Apple SDK or learn to code, iKnox is providing a way for almost anyone to quickly build (and be proud of) mobile projects.

The great thing about it is that they look fantastic on all modern smartphones, not just iPhones. “Never shun a customer” is what we say, and what we’re providing.

Anyone who has used WordPress to create a website already knows how to build an iphone app enabled site. Install our theme and plugin and it’s all ready. The “how to” menu has a couple movie tutorials to show you how to structure your menus and content, even including widgets.

Branding is easy by either uploading images or selecting colors for the toolbars and backgrounds, and there are even several pre-set color schemes to start from.

Knoxing is always an email away if you need a little help or have some questions. Let us know what you create, we’d love to see your mobile presence!

Something different. Something easier. Something better.

Have you ever wanted an App enabled mobile site but don’t know how to build one? The truth is that if you can use WordPress, you’re already an expert.

Do you want it to FEEL native and fluid?

Do you want to manage not just the content but all the menu items as well?

Do you want to style and brand it yourself without ever needing a webmaster?

Do you want to be able to make deep menu systems with fluid horizontal scrolling?

Do you want to manage media without worrying about sizes and mobile capability?

Do you want the ability to interlink it with other mobile apps natively with easy buttons within the editor?

Would you like your mobile site to be App enabled for iPhones but also offer the same site to Android users?

Let’s face it. You COULD just use a plugin to re-render a WordPress blog to fit on the mobile screen. OR you could use the iKnox 2.0 Theme that takes you into the native fluid realm that iPhone and android users expect while giving you complete control over style and content.

Some systems offer a “brandable” solution with limited capability. iKnox isn’t branded TO you, it IS you. And as your desire for the content to go through some changes, you can update it at anytime.

iKnox isn’t simply a theme or iPhone template, it’s a framework that joins Ajax, WordPress and awesomeness into a user experience your visitors want while making you look like a genius.

First of all, the iPad is NOT just a big iPhone as droid fans and those who don’t have an iPad may say. This device, with a few apps and familiarity with the iPhone interface is closer to a laptop (for me) than it is any smartphone. To evaluate it and see if it’s a viable option for people like me to use I made decision to not touch a laptop for a couple weeks, forcing me to use an iPad. Well I’m not a typical user, I don’t just use the Internet, check email, type docs and tweak spreadsheets (though all of this is easily done on the iPad). I’m a coder, a webmaster and I like to tinker, break things, fix things and play. I need to troubleshoot email issues, amend websites, post, create images, videos and more and I need to do it quickly and fairly often. It’s clear, the iPad CAN replace a laptop in most cases. It has for me. In fact, I made this entire post on the iPad.

These are my staple apps that allow me to use the iPad on a daily “work” basis. Click the thumbnails to see a bigger

image.

Web Stuff

Markup: Markup is a great app that let’s you code and preview your works. You build a list of websites with your FTP logins and you can then browse them on the iPad and select the thumbnail of the desired website needing work. After selecting it you can browse the directories,s select file, edit, create new files and so on. It even has a quick key to special characters needed by coders. This app is great for a webmaster or SEO.

Source Viewer: this is a great app for seo’s for it let’s you peak at the source code of any URL you wish. It let’s you browse the code source, all links within and even allows you to snoop on the script code with a tap. Every SEO needs to peek in on source code, this is perfect.

Photogene: not exactly Photoshop but pretty dang close for what’s needed if you want to manipulate, crop and edit photos and pictures. It allows you to layer elements, add text, borders, resize and it has a pretty powerful color control tool set. Save it to you gallery for easy uploading anywhere you want. I used this for photos in this post.

Sketch Book Pro: This app is actually above me for it’s incredibly powerful and I’m a horrible artist. It does allow me to make some quick sketches on the fly for notes but it’s intended for more detail. It has a rich palette of various brushes and tools and also allows layering of elements. With a stylus, this app has great usefulness.

WordPress: All web masters, most likely, are familiar with WordPress and use it as a standard. The WordPress for iPad app is not very useful in some ways, but something about it nice. Granted, you can always log in directly to the WordPress site and use the standard interface for the screen size is plenty large. But the standard interface has a couple problems. You can’t upload photos from your gallery and you must write you posts in code view only. Not the most streamlined way for adding images and links. So, this is why I like the app. Images are handled through the the iPad photo gallery and links code is automatically detected. Categories are simple and it parses the current categories within the site and let’s you pick them with a tap.

Cpanel/Web Host Manager: Both these consoles render and work like a charm in Safari. Personally, I use them daily for basic webmastery be it from suspending websites when owners decide they no don’t feel it necessary to pay for their hosting (cough) to code based SEO or creating new accounts, tweaking server allocation space, hunting email etc. You can do all of this from your car or at Starbucks after a client call and provide incredibly fast customer service.

SERPS: This a free and simple little native App that quickly lists your interested domains and desired keywords and lists your rank along side the competition. Basically, a quick way to google everything at once.

Fun Stuff

Weatherbug: nice fee app – lots of features and smooth animations, much more than other apps and less clunky as the Weather Channel app – much faster too. Each right column widget can be brought to center with a touch (there are more widgets as you scroll down the column too) and you can set many locations or have it bring up your own location via gps.

ReelDirector: This is a great app for video editing! iMovie for iPad is not yet available, this is a great app to use ’til then. Perform basically all the functions you would expect from a video editing application. Sharing your projects is simple via the iTunes interface on your desktop, save to your gallery and use as you would for FaceBook, YouTube etc. or just shoot it out as email.

Solitaire: A staple on any computer:) Touch controls are perfect, a great time-suck.

Videos: BEAUTIFUL HD quality and bright screen makes this a wonderful device to watch my favorite TV shows.

Camera A/B: This is a combo app to be used in concert with an iPhone. Basically it pairs your devices and let’s you view the screen camera on an iPhone on the screen of the iPad. Seems silly to some, but the clever will grin at the possibilities.

Better Browsing

Safari: I know, Flash isn’t supported still.. groan…. BUT this version of safari is amazing. The renderings are perfect, haven’t found any problems with JavaScript and even embedded video from many services show within the page! (much different than iPhone that opened the video browser to watch a movie). I was really surprised to see apple handle that without making a big deal about it.

Basic “Work”

Pages/Keynote/Numbers – Yeah, they all work really well and there’s a lot out there to learn about the apps. I’m a web guy:)

The Bottom Line

Instant on computing on a large and intelligent interface that goes way beyond the simple apps of a smartphone. My job/livelihood is on the line to be able to access the web, manipulate it and use standard tools and this device surely does that. Not only am I sold on the iPad for it’s practical and business worthy aptitude but also it’s flare, it’s simplicity and fun.

I admit I’m a fan of the iPhone. But, unlike those that camp out for days to be one of the first to acquire a new Apple toy (like these guys a week ahead of the release), I am waiting a week or so.

Yeah, my phone has been dropped and kicked a few times – even fell in a toilet, so i do need a new one.

But I’ve thought about the upgrade too, and I don’t see any real NEED. I really can’t justify a couple hundred dollars for a compass and video ability. I prefer an HD Flip for that.

So, the Software 3.0 upgrade is nice, with some features that have iPhoners drooling.

BUT – some people are going to be upset for they have not read some fine print.

A BIG feature that has been lacking is MMS. iPhoners like to txt, a lot! And, with the NEW (cough) ability to add media to the chats they are all very excited. BUT – there WILL BE NO MMS in the U.S. for months becasue AT&T won’t support it for a while. (And remember, we HAVE to use AT&T)

Also – Tethering is being raved about. NO, U.S. customers won’t be able to use the tethering feature either.

So – expect a bunch of groans from people who ooh and aah over glossy renderings but fail to read the English. Those little footnote indicators are there for a reason.

Yeah – awesome phone, but AT&T sucks. Apple needs to allow choice, or at least not advertise to US customers features that aren’t going to be available.

iPhone Software update is available tomorrow for free, the iPhone in a couple days. They are lined up, many who already have a 3G but ‘need’ to have the latest toy, even if it doesn’t do anything (of a couple hundred dollars value) new.

Oh, be sure to grab your iPhone template and build your own iPhone webapp;)

Before you do any of that just do what this guy shows you – it works, and you’ll feel so much smarter… in a dumb way.

Ok, those that have not had the issue are saying “that’s a stupid post” – but those with it are banging theirs head on the desk.

Thanks to all of you who have sought out the wares and used them and left some great comments and sent nice thanks. From all the “Thank yous” this lone app has rescued over well over $100,000 worth of iPhones – I know there’s more that said nothing. It’s a great feeling. Come back if your LCD acts up again and use it – it’s free.

No, it won’t get much more exposure now even though it’s on Apple.com for it’s king in search for anyone with the affected problem, but it’s nice to see it. Check out the stuck pixel fix for iPhone.

If you want to make your OWN APP for iPhone check out the template I’ve built that gives you everything needed.

Just insert the following code in the header of your page and amend it to address your target (iPhone version) location.

UPDATED – As of iPhone Safari 2, the script isn’t accurate. The new Updated script is here.

Thanks to Chris Bailey at Used Boats for bringing this to attention and re-writing the script for us.

I’ve been irritated seeing websites that say “If you’re using an iPhone, click here” – C’mon, people don’t want to go through that and coders need to anticipate this. Seamless to users and polishes your project.

Real quick iPhone and Touch developers.

If you want to have a custom icon shown on the home screen when someone makes a web-clipping of your site instead of a thumbnail of the page, it’s very easy. Not only does it polish off your efforts, it also makes the clipping more useful for your users.

It’s a two step process.

First make an icon. Just a .png file, here’s one you can use as a template, and drop it in your app’s root folder. Don’t worry about the nice round edges or glossy layer, the iPhone software will add that when the clipping is created, you just want the basic image.

Then just call the icon with this code in your header:

Done. Now the web-clippings have a actual icon on the phone, not just a thumbnail of the page. Great for custom apps.

Yes, this is now included in the iphone template.

Comments are closed here, feel free to discuss on the iPhone template post.

Apple is featuring an app intended for medical use developed by Health Web I.T. and it utilizes my iPhone template system.

One of my Link Bait tools released August 20th really took off and many have taken it. To the right you see a template for the iPhone to build web-applications. Yes – I provide it for free. I charge very little now – bandwidth and all:) Eric Bramlett reminds us in Link Bait 101 that the best forms of it as being:

Informational

Controversial

Humorous

News

Tools

I have gone the “Tools” route. Many developer have sought out the template and it’s been knocked around in the Mac forums for a while and is now ranking higher in google than Apple itself for many terms and even mentioned on c|net – pretty cool.

Bait- what industry are you in? What tools could you provide? Thanks, Nathan of Health Web IT for seeking it out and using its framework for something productive. (some have used it for less than proud work, you can imagine)

Now, that’s a quickie on Link Bait, but you know there’s also “traffic bait”? Depending on the monetization strategies you use it can be more effective, depends if you want eyeballs or greenbacks – I prefer both.

It’s easy, it’s legal and it’s safe. STOP paying Apple to make custom ringtones for your iPhone! If you think iTunes is the only way beside trying to hack your half-grand toy then think again. iTunes makes you PAY, hacking can “brick” it – but a quiet release of Garage Band will do it for you.

Upgrade Grarage Band to version 4.1.1 for iLife ’08. You already paid enough for your mac and handheld wonder-toy so don’t worry-Apple won’t either.

Non- “jail broken” iPhones and PC users – you aren’t going to luck out like this for it’s only for Mac users with iLife ’08 that update Garage Band to 4.1.1.

Open Garage band and start a new project, then delete the default track.

This will leave you with an empty workspace – that’s good.

Then drag any audio file to the workspace.

You’re almost done. Trim it to any anything under 40 seconds – any part of it you want then hit the ‘loop” icon next to fast forward.

Happy? You’re there. Now go to ‘share’ in the menu and you see an item “Send Ringtone To iTunes’ – yup, just do it.

Enjoy your new free ringtone for the iPhone – and you didn’t have to use iTunes and pay Apple.

personally, I’m enjoying Beethoven’s ‘Ode To Joy’.

[audio:http://www.knoxing.com/audio/odetojoy.mp3]

Grab it here if you want it.
